Indexes in fiction 2

I recently came across another novel to add to my list of indexing/indexers in fiction.

It is called The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander McCall Smith.

The Sunday Philosophy Club is set in Edinburgh. The main character in the novel is called Isabel Dalhousie who edits a philosophy journal, Review of Applied Ethics. She can afford to work for a nominal fee due to an inheritance she got from her late mother. Part of her work involves indexing a special issue which she does not enjoy and keeps putting the task off. Isabel prints out the index, puts it in an envelope and posts it to the general editor for approval.

The Sunday Philosophy Club seems to be set when printers were available, but indexes were not yet emailed to editors. When she is not working Isabel is an amateur sleuth and she solves unusual mysteries. She hosts The Sunday Philosophy Club in her home.

For anyone writing a book which needs a proofread or an index, hire a professional from AFEPI (Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders & Indexers of Ireland) , the Society of Indexers, or CIEP (Charter Institute of Editing and Proofreading) to lighten your load!
